Product Description
Compensators serve to offset deficiencies and losses. Compensation also exists in technological fields. When pipeline media or ambient temperatures fluctuate, temperature-induced pipeline movements can be accommodated using smooth, groove-free, and obstruction-free pipes, or through direct burial correction. In such cases, inspection chambers or concealed chambers should be installed at the metal compensator locations.
Are metal compensators equivalent to other bellows compensators in equipment? The answer is yes. Adjusting the fixed support spacing and calculating the thrust force for fixed supports in metal compensators follows the same principles as for standard bellows compensators. To enhance engineering safety and reliability, these bellows compensators not only require proximity to fixed support equipment but also mandate three guide supports between each fixed support—a requirement that varies to some extent. Critical metal compensators are used to fill large axial gaps in pipelines with high self-guiding flexibility. This simplifies duct support planning and allows flexible adjustment of support spacing. When selecting and installing metal compensators, their purpose can be clearly defined.
By material classification, bellows are primarily divided into metal bellows and plastic bellows.
Plastic bellows are tubular expansion products made from plastic. Due to their material savings, lightweight nature, and excellent physical and chemical properties, plastic bellows are widely used in civil engineering, municipal works, highways, and bridges.
Metal bellows are corrugated tubes. Commonly, the inner layer consists of carbon steel, stainless steel, or plastic, while the outer layer is electroplated metal. Metal bellows can accommodate small-angle turning, transmission, and expansion, finding extensive use in power generation, machinery, and other industries.
Based on forming processes, bellows can be categorized into hydraulically formed bellows, roll-formed bellows, mechanically expanded bellows, and deposition-formed bellows.
Hydraulic forming is the most common and widely applied method for manufacturing corrugated tubes, primarily used to produce annular tubes with wall thicknesses ranging from 0.08 to 4 mm. This process utilizes fluid pressure within the tube blank to expand and compress the material, forming the corrugations. It is frequently employed for small-diameter metal corrugated tubes.
Roll forming relies on forming wheels set within the tube blank to create corrugations. Some wheels produce one corrugation per pass, while others form multiple corrugations simultaneously. This process is primarily used for manufacturing large-diameter bellows.
Deposition forming involves depositing bellows material onto a mandrel, which is subsequently dissolved away. This method is typically employed for producing low-hardness metal bellows but carries relatively high manufacturing costs.
