With the continuous advancement of science and technology, many new products have emerged in our daily lives, and metal products are among them in great abundance. Metal hoses are particularly convenient for our everyday use. When it comes to metal mesh hoses, we simply can't help but mention stainless steel metal hoses. In general, during the use of stainless steel metal hoses, we often refer to them simply as "stainless steel metal hoses." As a type of hose, they boast excellent flexibility and a certain load-bearing capacity. They also provide excellent gas sealing performance, which gives them a longer service life compared to other materials. Below, we’ll briefly introduce stainless steel metal hoses.

What is a stainless steel metal hose?

For corrugated hoses—whether circular or spiral—that feature an armored metal wire or braided mesh jacket on the exterior and have an aspect ratio (length-to-diameter ratio) of 3 or greater, these are referred to as metallic flexible hoses. In European and American countries, they are commonly known as flexible hoses, corrugated hoses, or flexible metallic hoses/corrugated metallic hoses ().

Application scope of stainless steel metal hoses

In China’s metal hose industry, the main issues with domestically produced metal hose products are: a single product structure, poor equipment, and unstable quality.

  1. Stainless Steel Metal Hose Industry

The military stainless steel metal hose market can be divided into two main categories: hoses for aerospace applications and metal hoses for ground equipment. Stainless steel metal hoses used in aerospace applications have not been replaced by new products due to limitations in the forming process; seamless hoses remain the dominant type. As for military hoses used in ground equipment, which are exposed to lower-risk environments, they have gradually been replaced by civilian stainless steel metal hoses. The structural adjustments between these two types of hoses are relatively minor.

  2. Main industries for civilian stainless steel metal hoses

  (1) In the iron and steel metallurgy industry, stainless steel metal hoses are gradually shifting from competition based on product performance to competition based on cost-effectiveness, and their product structure has largely become standardized. The application of stainless steel metal hoses in this industry has been widely recognized.

  (2) In the petrochemical industry, the situation is relatively complex. On the one hand, market demand for large-diameter high-pressure stainless steel metal hoses and central drain hoses for storage tanks continues to rise; however, domestic development of new products in this area is still far from sufficient. On the other hand, in certain applications, hoses have already been replaced by other products—for instance, non-metallic pipelines that have emerged in the marine terminal piping market (which are lightweight and offer adequate pressure resistance). Since the petrochemical industry represents a significant segment of the domestic hose market, companies in this sector face intense competition, and the cost of developing new products in this field is also very high.

  3. Special Stainless Steel Metal Hose Industry

This industry primarily refers to the marine hose product line. Due to the high technical requirements and massive investment scale (approximately 500 million RMB), China currently lacks the capability to independently develop and grow this sector, and thus relies heavily on imports—despite the enormous market potential.
