Common Faults of Coal Mine Belt Conveyors
The mining environment in coal mines is relatively complex, and under such challenging conditions, belt conveyors are prone to various types of failures. Based on my own work experience, I will introduce several common belt conveyor faults and analyze the underlying causes of these failures.
Analysis of the Reasons Why a Coal Mine Belt Conveyor Cannot Rotate
Generally, during startup or operation, the conveyor belt of a coal mine belt conveyor may sometimes fail to move. For example, the rollers may spin freely while the belt slips. The primary cause is that, as the coal mine belt conveyor operates continuously for longer periods, the belt on the drum becomes loose, the connection between the conveyor and the drum becomes insufficient and loosens, causing the drum to spin freely. Another possible reason is overload—specifically, when the conveyor is handling materials that are too heavy, exceeding the belt conveyor’s capacity. If the belt’s conveying power is inadequate, the conveyor may either fail to rotate altogether or end up spinning idly.
The reason why the belt is winding might be due to the following factors.
1. The conveyor has quality issues. Belt conveyors come with various parameters; if there’s a significant difference between the inner and outer diameters of the roller’s shafts, the shafts won’t be parallel, causing the belt to easily wander or snake.
2. Installation issues: During the installation of belt conveyors, the installation requirements were not followed. Since belt conveyors consist of many components, improper installation can easily cause the belt to wander or deviate from its intended path. For example, the positions of the belt support rollers may shift, or there could be problems with the anti-deviation devices.
3. Loading or maintenance issues: During belt conveyance, if items are placed on one side during transportation, the belt is prone to meandering. Additionally, if debris is lodged between the belt and the rollers, the contact between the rollers and the belt will become loose, also leading to belt meandering.
The reasons for the belt breakage are as follows.
1. The cause of stress—In other words, when the belt is subjected to an external force exceeding its capacity, it will break. For example, if the tension from the rollers is too great, the belt will snap. 2. Quality issues with the belt—If the belt is of poor quality, or if its joints are not securely fastened, the belt is prone to breaking.
3. Prolonged operation of the belt. If the belt operates for an extended period, it will become excessively hot, making it prone to breakage.
