Although metal hoses are both compressible and stretchable, they will quickly break and have a reduced service life if not installed in the correct position. The hoses can be installed horizontally, vertically, or at an angle; the ideal installation orientation is vertical. Additionally, installation near wheels should be minimized, and baffles can be added when necessary.

Generally, metal hoses can be categorized into three types of lengths: the compressed length, which is the length when the hose is compressed to its specified limit position; the second type is the installed length, which is the length of the hose when it’s positioned midway at half of its maximum allowable displacement; and the third type is the extended length, which is the length to which the hose is stretched when fully extended to its specified limit.

When installing the hose, it should be positioned in the middle—what is known as the installation length. In this installed position, the hose can move in two directions when subjected to axial loads. Otherwise, if it can only move in one direction, the strength of the metal hose will be compromised and its service life will be reduced.

During actual installation, considering that using a ruler to measure the hose length according to calculated results before installation might affect production efficiency, some manufacturers directly attach rulers to the hoses and then simply cut off the rulers after installation.

  1. When selecting metal hoses, to facilitate installation, please choose metal hoses with a loose-flange end whenever possible.

  2. When performing electric welding operations at the construction site, the surface of the metal hose should be protected.

  3. It is strictly prohibited to install metal hoses in a twisted manner.

  4. It should not be bent at the root of the metal hose, and there should be no dead bends.

  5. The medium conveyed must not be corrosive to the bellows material, and the chloride ion content in the medium should be ≤25 PPM.

  6. Install strictly according to the correct installation method shown in the installation diagram.

  7. Mechanical damage to the flange sealing surfaces is strictly prohibited.
