The double-wall corrugated pipe is manufactured by extruding a corrugated surface and a smooth inner cavity made of HDPE simultaneously. So, after assembling the double-wall corrugated pipe, what are some areas that we tend to overlook easily? And how can we address these issues? Below, PVC-U double-wall corrugated pipes will explain several effective solutions for you.
Let’s talk about some very easily overlooked issues after assembling double-wall corrugated pipes.
The double-wall corrugated pipe is extruded with a corrugated surface and a smooth inner cavity made of HDPE. So, after assembling the double-wall corrugated pipe, what are some areas that we tend to overlook easily? And how can we address these issues? Below, PVC-U double-wall corrugated pipes will explain several effective solutions for you.

1. After assembling the double-wall corrugated pipe, the test should be conducted under pressure: Plastic pipes are typically assembled by non-professional personnel. Due to their light weight, flexibility, easy connection, and convenient disassembly, water testing is usually performed only after assembly, while hydraulic testing is generally carried out afterward. Once the pressure in urban water supply networks fluctuates, leaks can easily occur. Currently, many households often opt for concealed plumbing installations. However, if the water pipes are improperly concealed and subjected to a pressure test, the safety risks become even greater, and any leaks could damage the wall surface, making subsequent maintenance and repairs more difficult.
2. After assembling the double-wall corrugated pipe, expansion compensation should be provided: The thermal expansion coefficient of plastic hoses exceeds that of seamless steel pipes; therefore, when used to transport hot water, sufficient compensation capacity must be reserved. Project clients often overlook this detail during construction drawing design—though it’s not commonly an issue—but leaks in hot-water pipelines frequently occur due to expansion caused by interior decoration work undertaken by homeowners.
3. After assembling the double-wall corrugated pipe, take antifreeze measures: Maintain the power-supplied insulated pipeline. However, in cases of freezing, these pipelines often suffer from frozen water pipes due to a lack of proper thermal insulation and heat preservation measures.
Laying Specifications for Double-Wall Corrugated Pipes
1. The pipelines made of double-wall corrugated pipes should be laid in straight lines. In special circumstances where flexible joints are used for curved laying, the allowable deflection angle between the longitudinal centerlines of adjacent pipe sections generally should not exceed 2°.
2. The pavement should be laid on a subgrade consisting of native soil or on a compacted fill layer that has undergone appropriate treatment after trenching. When pipelines are located beneath vehicular roadways, the thickness of the backfill above the pipe top must not be less than 0.7 meters.
3. When pipelines cross obstacles such as railway lines, road embankments, and buildings, protective sleeves made of materials like structural steel bars and pig iron shall be installed. The nominal diameter of the waterproof sleeve shall exceed the diameter of the corrugated pipe by more than 200 mm. The design of the waterproof sleeve shall comply with the relevant provisions for dam foundations.
4. In areas where the groundwater level exceeds the elevation of the bottom of the excavated trench, measures must be taken during construction to lower the groundwater level, thereby preventing imbalance in the trench. Pipeline construction may commence only after the groundwater has been lowered to a point 0.3 to 0.5 meters below the lowest point of the trench bottom. Throughout the entire process—from assembly to backfilling—the bottom of the trench must remain free of standing water or cold-induced saturation.
